The Catholic community in Princeton predates the first official church records which begin in 1895. In 1895 our faith community was under the spiritual direction of Reverend Emil Olivier, then pastor of Saint Mary's, Wytheville. Princeton was a mission of Bluefield, established in 1910. During that time our faith community gathered to celebrate Mass with Father Oliver in various places including the Courthouse, homes, and a theatre.
The first families mentioned in our early church history included those of: Flanigan, Johnston, Santon, Wheby.
The present site of Princeton Sacred Heart was purchased by Bishop Patrick J. Donohue in 1912, financed by Mrs. John Fortune. Reverend Jermiah O'Connell was appointed first pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton in 1914.
Since those days many priests and parishioners have come and gone, but "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Every member of the Church is gifted by God. Here at Sacred Heart we encourage people to share their gifts and talents with one another. We invite you to come and visit or become part of our parish.
